Graduate Student Application Protocol


Thank you for your interest in our lab! If you are interested in applying to the Zandstra lab, located in either the School of Bomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia or at the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering (IBBME) at the University of Toronto, please see below application protocol.


Step 1:


Confirm University and or program eligibility requirements

Step 3:


Find a supervisor!


After submission of your application, look for a supervisor. When a supervisor is found you must advise SGS directly by email. Please be sure to include your new supervisor on this email. Please note an offer of admission will not be granted unless you have a guaranteed supervisor.

When contacting Peter Zandstra as a potential supervisor by email (peter.zandstra@ubc.ca), it is important to include the below as a single attachment:

  1. Statement of interest: this should be a brief paragraph that outlines your research interests and potential fit with the lab.
  2. Identify what level of study you are seeking: MSc, PhD etc…
  3. Append a copy of your transcript with cGPA and your CV.
  4. Our administrative team will contact you to set up a phone or video call if you meet minimum lab requirements
  5. Interview procedure differs with every lab. However, should you be accepted into a lab, please be sure to update SGS immediately via email and be sure to cc your prospective supervisor.
  6. Post Doctoral Fellows & Reserach Associate Application Protocol
